i keep getting all these spam messages about increasing the size of the penis.. and i wonder... do girls get messages about breast enlargement and silicone implants?
am not the target audience but I find this to be an interesting problem :)
Finding the sex of the person " automatically" by looking at the email id. Now assuming the ids contain the name .. and assuming you are able to separate out firstname lastname & nicknames ..as the domain of names varied (countries/languages ..) it will be difficult to form a exhaustive list. Spammers could apply some heuristics like i/e at the end of the name but still i do not expect very good accuracy. But I am sure spammers must be using something to optimize spam mailing to reach their target customer base before spam filters learns to filter them out.
most of such spam mails i get are addressed to my yahoo id. so i guess they could have visited my profile page to know whether i'm male or female. otherwise, i think it will be almost impossible to find out the gender of a person from his email id.
